A special committee has promised to keep a cemetery running during bankrupcty proceedings.
The George Washington Carver Memorial Cemetery closed unexpectedly in September when the owner filed for bankrupcty.
Monday, Rep. Juandalynn Givan announced that an oversight committee has been formed to address loved ones' concerns over the cemetery's condition during bankrupcty.
A group of volunteers has promised to maintain the property during this period of transition. The committee even plans to work with the owner in the future to make sure the business runs as smoothly as possible.
The committee has invited family and friends of those buried at the cemetery Mon., Jan. 20 for a Clean Up Day at the cemetery from noon to 2 p.m.
In related news, Cedric McMillian has made an offer to buy the cemetery which must be approved by the court.
