BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A Red Flag Warning by the National Weather Service is in effect for a large portion of Alabama until 6 p.m. Friday.

During a Red Flag Warning, small brush fires can quickly grow due to favorable conditions for extreme fire behavior.

Active updates concerning changes in weather are posted on the FOX6 Weather Blog and the FOX6 Weather Application for mobile devices.

The following counties are under the Red Flag Warning, meaning outdoor burning is not recommended due to the critical fire weather conditions. 

Autauga, Barbour Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun Chambers    Cherokee, Chilton, Clay Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas , Elmore, Etowah Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston.
