After more than a year and a half of construction, there's a light at the end of the tunnel for the Owensboro Convention Center.
The mood inside the Convention Center was festive Monday afternoon as crews set up for the building's first event.
Crews spent the day unpacking new chairs, setting up booths, cleaning and making sure all the buildings systems are good to go for Wednesday's expo. Hundreds of farmers and people from across Kentucky and Southern Indiana are expected to come to the Convention Center to network and learn about the latest agriculture issues.
Center officials say the next couple of days will be an exciting time for them as they set up.
"It's been a very gratifying project because the people of the community, the city, the construction workers, the trades, the unions, everyone that has worked hard on this building. Seeing all their hard work come together is very gratifying," says Dean Dennis, General Manager of the Convention Center.
Crews will break down the ag expo Wednesday night and start setting up for the Convention Center's Opening Gala that will take place on Friday.
