Birmingham is once again on the top 10 list of most dangerous cities in the United States.
The list was compiled by CNN using FBI statistics on violent crime from 2012 and the network's own research on individual cities.
Despite the dubious distinction, there is good news in the latest numbers.
Birmingham moved down in the rankings; this year the Magic City comes in at number 10, last year Birmingham was ranked the sixth most dangerous city.
Birmingham had 67 homicides in 2013 compared to 78 in 2012.
City leaders credit good police work and the downtown revitalization as major factors that have made Birmingham safer.
Police Chief A.C. Roper says the vast majority of violent crime incidents involve people who know each other.
"We've shown progress in reducing those numbers and we have very few stranger homicides in the city of Birmingham," says Chief Roper.
"We look over the recent history and we see where the numbers continue to decrease and so we'll keep working at it," says Roper. "We're resourcing the department the way we need to and we'll see even more progress this year."
Camden, New Jersey tops the list. Click here to see the full rankings at http://www.money.cnn.com.
