Breastfeeding woman booted from AL courtroom

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A south Alabama woman says she's considering taking legal action after being kicked out of a courtroom for breastfeeding.

Jenna Harris told WKRG-TV she was nursing her 3-month old baby while waiting for a court proceeding at the Bay Haas building in Mobile when an officer told her she needed to move to another area of the building.

Court officials told the station they were asked by other people in the court to have Harris moved. Court officers say they didn't break any state laws because they provided Harris with another area to nurse her baby.

However, the section of Alabama law pertaining to breastfeeding says "a mother may breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be present."
