A state lawmaker says she has a plan to clean up what she calls a growing litter problem in the Forestdale community.
Representative Juandalynn Givan says she is teaming up with County Commissioner George Bowman to spearhead a "community clean-up effort." They are asking for volunteers to come out and pick up the debris on Saturday.
Givan says she has asked for the county's help in the past, but claims commissioners have been slow to respond. She says it has gotten to the point where she has to turn to the people who live in the area.
"It's just reached a head at this point. I've got to get some relief out here. I'm getting hundreds of calls a day relative to the trash," said Givan. "I have neighbors, constituents calling me saying ‘Representative Givan, I don't want to bring people into my neighborhood.'"
More details on this weekend's clean up are expected later on Monday.
