Alabama food safety inspectors are going statewide into grocery stores and warehouses to make sure the Hot Pockets recalled this week have been removed from shelves.
The Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries announced the recall effectiveness checks Thursday.
Nestle USA issued a voluntary recall Tuesday for HOT POCKETS Philly Steak and Cheese in three different pack sizes and HOT POCKETS Croissant Crust Philly Steak and Cheese in the two pack box.
The recall came after Nestle discovered that uninspected meat was used in the Hot Pockets.
According to the USDA, a California company recalled 8.7 million pounds of meat because it processed diseased or unsound animals.
Consumers who may have purchased the affected product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Nestlé Consumer Services at (800) 392-4057.
