Calhoun County's coroner has confirmed the deaths of two brothers who drowned over the weekend in Ohatchee. It happened just off Highway 77 in the Coosa River.
Coroner Pat Brown says 44-year-old Xao Le and his brother, 28-year-old Cong Le, were fishing when their canoe overturned about 1 a.m. Sunday morning. A cousin who was watching from shore tried to get help.
Brown says the two held onto the canoe, but one of them got entangled in a net and both went under. Neither was wearing a life vest.
Brown says the older brother's body was recovered at 2 a.m. and the younger brother's body was recovered at 7 a.m. He says the cold water could have constricted their muscles and made it difficult for them to swim.
