Third suspect charged with capital murder in Tuscaloosa shooting

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa authorities have charged a third person in connection with a murder during a suspected drug deal.

Homicide investigators charged Willis Franklin Miles, also known as Pat, with capital murder.

Demetrius Rashad Foster, 26, and Charles MacKennly Nelson, Jr., 18, have also been charged with capital murder in the death of Joshua Gardner, 24.

The shooting happened on Jan 9. Police first learned of the shooting when Gardner arrived at DCH Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest under his left arm. Gardner stated he was on 20th Street when he was shot. He died on Jan. 29, 20 days after being shot.

Investigators suspect Gardner, Foster, Nelson and possibly others met for a drug deal gone wrong in western Tuscaloosa. Gardner was shot several times in a car on 20th Street during an attempted robbery.

All three suspects are being held without bond.
