A former Florida resident accused of running a sex tourism business on Craigslist was arrested in Huntsville. Federal agents picked up 50-year-old Patrick Minga at a home on Steeplechase Drive.
Investigators said they spotted an ad by Minga that said he would arrange lodging, transportation, meals, and unlimited access to girls under the age of 13 in Ecuador and Colombia for a price.
According to investigators, an undercover agent from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office who is a member of a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations task force observed the ad and contacted Minga. Minga tried to induce and arrange the travel of the undercover agent from Florida to Quito, Ecuador, where he advised that he could provide sexual encounters with minors. It occurred over the course of several months.
Minga was arrested in Huntsville after returning from Ecuador on March 2. He was met by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and ICE/HSI who subsequently arrested him.
"I am so proud of the tireless efforts by this partnership, and our investigative team that dismantled this vile operation," said Sheriff Wayne Ivey. "One that was designed specifically to cater to internet predators for the sole purpose of harming children. I am sickened by the activities of this individual and the child sex trade organization that exist. Let there be no mistake, anyone who would do this to a child needs to be locked up for the rest of their life, where they can never harm anyone else."
Minga was charged with attempted sex trafficking. He was detained in Birmingham and schedule to be sent back to Florida for prosecution. He faces up to 30 years in prison.
