OLIVE BRANCH, MS -

(WMC-TV) – The 71-year-old man who went missing from his Olive Branch home late Sunday night was found dead Monday afternoon.

Kenneth Alvin Staten was reported missing when his wife woke up around 1 a.m. Monday and noticed he was gone. Staten suffered from medical conditions that caused him to sometimes become confused and disoriented.

"It's not like him," said Staten's son, Tyler Spaniel. "He normally stays in the house with his wife and his family."

Staten was found by two dogs, lying at the bottom of a culvert near the ramp from Highway 78 to Craft Road. Police think the cold weather was too much for the man who left home in only a shirt and sweat pants.

Crews from OBPD, Olive Branch Fire Department, and DeSoto County searched for Staten near his home on Bluegrass Road and in wooded areas near Highway 78. They also used a helicopter and ATVs to assist in the search.

A Silver Alert was issued by Mississippi Highway Patrol just before noon Monday. That has since been canceled.
