HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

In July, Paramedic Jennifer Hesselbein was severely injured while responding to a fatal accident near Woodrow Wilson and Industrial Drive in Jackson.

Her pelvis was shattered and she lost an eye, and she remained at UMC recovering for months.

On Monday morning, Hesselbein appeared before the Hinds County Board of Supervisors to congratulate her former partner, EMT Jonathan Blackwell, as he received a "Star of Life" Honor from the American Medical Association for saving her life.

Hesselbein got some help easing herself out of a wheelchair to thank American Medical Response, Blackwell, and everyone else that played a role in helping her that night.

She tells us she's well on her way to recovery, with a glass eye and numerous pins and steel rods inserted inside her to heal the internal injuries.

Hesselbein plans to get married in October, and she hopes to return to her job as a Paramedic as soon as she can.
