Authorities: Theft foiled after suspect's car breaks down

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 27-year-old Lake Charles man is in custody after his car broke down during an attempted theft, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Jessie Holland Lindley was arrested Saturday night and charged with theft over $500, criminal trespass and criminal damage to property $500 to $50,000.

"Deputies patrolling on Corbina Road in Lake Charles stopped to assist the driver of a car (which had) broken down on the side of the road," Myers said Monday in a news release. "When deputies spoke with Lindley they observed a large bundle of welding leads covered in wet grass inside the car."

Myers said Lindley confirmed he stole the cables off a welding machine which was located in the yard of the home where his car broke down.

Lindley remained in jail Monday on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Ron Ware.
