Cleanup is underway along a DeSoto Parish creek contaminated by an oil spill over the weekend, and police are looking for the thieves that caused it.
According to the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office, brass and steel valves were stolen from oil storage tanks owned by the J O'Brian Operating Company in Keatchi, LA. The open valves caused 60 barrels of oil and 375 barrels of salt water to pour into a nearby creek on Windy Pines Road.
Water and soil were contaminated, but cleanup crews were able to contain the spill to the creek area. Testing is ongoing, police said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the thieves. Call 1-800-505-7867 or the DPSO at 318-872-3956 and speak to Sgt. Travis Chelette.
