UAH Police are looking for a man accused of sexually assaulting a female student on campus.
A student reported that a man she didn't know approached her outside the Louis Salmon Library around 9 p.m. Wednesday and asked for a ride to his car. Police believe the man doesn't own a car and used the story as a way to get close to the woman.
The victim told police that shortly after they got into her car, the man forcibly fondled her and exposed himself before she was able to stop in the Charger Union parking lot. That's when she forced him out of her car and drove away, unharmed.
The subject is described as a white man with a thin build in his mid-20's. Police said he has scruffy facial hair and a crew-cut hairstyle. He was wearing black, tattered cargo shorts and a dirty white shirt.
The victim said she believes she scratched both sides of his face.
The circumstances of the attack are especially unsettling at this time of year, finals season, when a lot of students are normally putting in long, late nights in the library, the very place where the incident started.
Students are shaken, and wonder why they didn't hear about this sooner.
"I usually do come out late, especially when I have tests," said student Danielle Jackson. "I would be that girl to give someone a ride. So that makes me kind of not want to help anyone now."
"I wish that I would have known," said Cora Cloud. "I think that would be something that should be emailed to us, as students. They should inform students when something like that happens on campus."
UAH Police are looking for any information about this incident. They have a list of personal safety tips posted at the campus police website for people to review.
