TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Hundreds of students from Holt Elementary raised money for a good cause. They participated in a balloon release ceremony as part of a Relay for Life fundraiser.

Kids raised more than $2,000 to put towards cancer research.

"Today our children walked at school during the day. And then this afternoon, we came out here and released our balloons in honor and memory of anybody that we know that's been infected with cancer," Holt teacher Heather Ingram said.

Tuscaloosa has a Relay for Life set for May 9.
