Birmingham, AL — The Birmingham Barons dropped their series finale against the Mobile BayBears by a score of 8-3 Sunday in front of 5,971 fans at Regions Field.
Mobile scored early and often against starter Terry Doyle (2-3, 6.83), getting an RBI single by Jake Lamb in the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
The lead would grow to 6-0 in the fourth on a two-run double by Garrett Weber and a two-run home run by David Peralta. The homer was Peralta's fifth of the season.
RBI hits by Sean Jamieson and Mike Freeman in the fifth pushed the BayBears lead to 8-0. All eight runs were charged to Doyle who allowed a season-high 13 hitsover 5.0 IP.
Josh Richmond put the Barons on the board in the 7th with a two-run home run into the Mobile bullpen in left-center. The home run was his 4th of the season while the two RBI gave him a team-high 23 on the year. After base hits by Jamie Pedroza and Keenyn Walker, Micah Johnson ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Pedroza and make it an 8-3 game. The double extended his hitting streak to 8 games.
However, the rally fell short as the Barons fell to 12-17 on the season while Mobile improved to 19-11. The Barons head back on the road Monday to begin a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies. The Barons will send RHP Nick McCully (2-1, 3.70) to the hill against RHP Ivan Pineyro (0-2, 2.39). First pitch is scheduled for a 6:15 PM CDT on Monday.
