KSLA News 12 Editorial: May 8th-The Strand

Posted: Updated:

89 years ago one of the finest theaters in the south opened in Downtown Shreveport.

The amazing thing is that the strand is still a vibrant cultural attraction today. That's not just by chance.

40 years ago a group of enlightened citizens rallied to save the historic theater. It had fallen onto hard times and was at a turning point. Either the wrecking ball or salvation. Lucky for us, it was saved and re-opened in 1984.

The reason I mention this is because just this week The Strand Theater announced it's lineup for the coming season, 30 years after it was saved.
I personally like these old, majestic theaters. And the fact that they are preserved and used is something we should all be thankful for.

I'm James Smith.
