We've learned a man is facing charges that he sexually assaulted a woman who came to our town for fun. The crime happened during the 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame Fan Fest.
Investigators believe the attacker drugged the woman, then raped her.
The alleged attacker and the supposed victim are both from out of town. They were strangers until they met at Cleveland's I-X Center during Fan Fest.
Some people had won a lottery drawing for a trip to come to Cleveland for the event, and a chance for a bigger prize. In the group was a woman from New York and a man from New Jersey.
They rode a bus together back to the hotel. They were staying at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel located in on Public Square.
The alleged victim told police she stopped at her room with her new friend to change clothes before they headed to the casino. But, supposedly when she went into the bathroom, he poured wine. A report shows that the wine had been given to the group at Fan Fest.
The woman claimed she only remembered waking up the next morning. She was nude from the waist down and all of her money was missing. Other Fan Fest contest winners had taken pictures.
The victim was shown the photos and identified her rapist from the pictures.
"That's him," the victim said when she saw his photo.
The suspect is Juan Urea of Passaic, New Jersey. He was arrested during the Fan Fest activities.
Urena is facing one count of rape and also giving a drug to impair judgement. He is in jail, and his visit to Cleveland has turned into an extended stay.
Cleveland Sex Crimes investigators are still waiting for the lab results.
