Jefferson County authorities say a 41-year-old convicted sex offender allegedly exposed himself to people in the parking lot of a grocery store.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said they got reports of the indecent exposure at the Food Giant in Pinson on Friday, May 2.
On May 5, a witness who had seen the suspect expose himself on May 2 noticed the same man inside the grocery store with a small child. The witness took photos of the suspect and his car, including the license plate, and gave the photos to detectives, Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale said.
"They trusted us with the
information that we do something with it and we did. We had a great result," Hale said.
Investigators tracked the suspect's vehicle to a woman who was living at the same location as a convicted sex offender, John Allen Racine. He was later identified as the man who was exposing himself in the parking lot, according to Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
The child who was with Racine in the store was his own biological child, Sheriff Hale noted. There is nothing preventing him from living with his own child, he added.
Detectives charged Racine with indecent exposure and violation of the Sex Offender Act. He was arrested on Wednesday, May 14 at his home in the 5700 block of Walnut Grove Road in Pinson.
Racine is being held on bonds totaling $21,000 in the Jefferson County Jail.
"We have serious laws on the books, good penalties for the violators and a community starting to understand and report violations to us," Hale said.
Authorities say Racine was previously convicted of lewd exhibition involving a 12-year-old male victim in Florida in 2008.
