Mayor Todd Strange makes the Month of May 'Bicycle Month' in Montgomery.
There are several miles of bike lanes for the cyclists throughout the city, with plans of making many more. It is a priority for the city to create a friendly environment for the cyclist on the road.
"With more the 156 miles of bicycle infrastructure located throughout our city, Montgomery is the perfect destination for both longtime cyclists and beginners," Strange said. "Cycling around Montgomery isn't only a good way to explore the history and beauty of our city, but it's a great way to get exercise and be active."
Robert Smith, the City of Montgomery Planning Director, presented a case study in February at the North Alabama Bike Summit about the plans the city has to build the best bicycle facilities.
On May 21 the city will host The Ride of Silence starting at 7 p.m.
The Ride of Silence is a national initiative where cyclists ride across the country in honor of those who were injured or killed by motor vehicles while cycling.
