Volunteers needed for Bessemer storm cleanup on June 7

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -

Volunteers are needed to help clear storm debris in Bessemer on Saturday, June 7.

Several areas in Bessemer still have debris from the April 28 tornado that passed through.

The one-day cleanup will start at 9 a.m. and will be headquartered at the Bessemer Civic Center at 1130 9th Avenue SW. The Lutheran Ministristries of Alabama is working with the city of Bessemer to organize the cleanup day.

Volunteers should wear long pants and tennis shoes and bring a rake and gloves if they have them. Volunteers will be taken to designated sites to help clean up on Saturday.

Anyone who is certified to use a chainsaw and wants to be on a chainsaw team should call Dr. Barry Cosper at 205-441-2886 before Saturday.

Groups and organizations that want to help out should register by signing up at lmal.org.
