BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The family of a Birmingham homicide victim say they desperately want closure.

Thursday marked the one year anniversary of Manquel Whittsett's murder.

In the early morning hours of June 5, 2013, Birmingham police were called to an apartment complex just off Lakeshore Parkway. Once there, they found the 38-year old lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UAB hospital where he later died.

Family and friends came together on the anniversary to remember Whittsett and to plead with the public to get his killer off the street. They are begging anyone with information to contact authorities.

Police say they still have no leads.

"He was somebody. That's my little brother. And just for it to be a year and for him to be dead and nobody said nothing, you know it's hard. Makes you feel like people don't care," said James Whittsett, the victim's brother.

The family is offering a cash reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. Please contact Birmingham police if you have any information.
