HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

More relief could be on the way for Jefferson County residents who are tired of long car tag lines.

The Hoover City Council has announced that they are negotiating with the county to open a satellite courthouse somewhere along the Highway 31 corridor.

It would operate much like the Center Point satellite location. Any Jefferson County resident would be able to get new car tags and titles as well as certain licenses.

The decision of where the satellite facility will go ultimately rests with Jeff County officials, but Hoover leaders say it's only logical to place it in their city.

"Given the fact also that we are the sixth largest city in the state with 85,000 residents, and that number grows to an estimated 200,000 any weekday given the number of people that are employed in Hoover, so it just makes sense to have it here on the highway 31 corridor," said City Councilman John Lyda.
