BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A female is in custody after a shootout in Tuscaloosa, according to the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit.

Sgt. Dale Phillips says homicide investigators received a call on a shooting into an occupied vehicle around 2 a.m. to an apartment complex on James I. Harrison Parkway.

At the scene, investigators spoke with a 19-year-old female who was an occupant in the car at the time of the shooting.

She stated that an 18-year-old male in the vehicle had gone to apartment complex and damaged the vehicle of 19-year-old Shakeria McKanstry. The male and McKanstry began arguing, which escalated to McKanstry producing a handgun and firing at the vehicle.

The male returned fire and the vehicle left the scene. After the vehicle stopped operating from damage, the male fled on foot. He has been identified, but has not been located.

McKanstry was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. She is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

No one was injured during the shooting.
