PIANA DI SIRARI, ITALY (CNN/HOST TV) - Pope Francis told a group of Italian mobsters they are being cut off from the Catholic Church.

The pope's move was an unprecedented warning against organized crime.

He made the announcement Saturday during a trip to southern Italy - in the same town where a 3-year-old and his grandfather were killed in a mob hit earlier this year.

The ‘Ndrangheta Mafia allegedly killed the two over an unpaid debt related to drugs.

The pope also warned local priests, some of whom have been suspected of involvement with organized crime.
