BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County deputies are investigating a shooting and robbery at a west Jefferson County gas station.

It happened just around 12:42 a.m. at the Minit Man convenience store in the 2300 block of Eastern Valley Road.

According to deputies, two suspects entered the store demanding money and brandishing handguns.

A customer in the store, a 27-year-old from California, threw his money on the floor and shouted, "That's all I got." One of the suspects then shot the customer in the leg, according to deputies.

The suspects fled on foot after taking the money from the cash register. No vehicle was seen.

Investigators describe the suspects as black males between the ages of 20 and 23. Both were about 5'9" with one being approximately 185 pounds and the other weighing about 160 pounds.

The customer has been taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Investigators say no one is in custody. Employees at the convenience store say surveillance video identifies the suspects very well. That video has been turned over to investigators.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450 or Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777.
