While fireworks shows are fun to watch, all that loud noise can be bad for your pet.
Kenneth Tallier with the Nashville Humane Association says the Fourth of July is the number one day of the year for pets to get lost.
He recommends keeping your dog calm by exercising them outside. If your dog is tired, he or she will be less likely to get worked up by outside noise.
If you are going out tonight, leave the TV or radio on to buffer the sound of fireworks.
And even though you like taking your dog to outdoor events, don't do it for the Fourth of July.
"It's fun to have them outside and all that wonderful stuff, but it's not something they really enjoy. If they're in your home and the noise bothers them, imagine if they're right there underneath all the fireworks," Tallier said.
No matter what day of the year it is, be sure your dog or cat has a collar with updated information on how to reach you in case he or she gets out and gets lost.
