MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - The wife of a fallen Memphis Police officer says she has just begun to fight against the city's cuts to police and fire benefits.

Betsy Warren lost her husband, Officer Tim Warren, almost three years ago. Warren didn't hesitate to appear in a Memphis Police Association ad to oppose the cuts.  Her opinion of city government politics hasn't changed much since her husband was killed in the line of duty.

"Tim fought his nightmares daily," said Warren, who saw the horrors of police work through her husband's eyes. "Every time he closed his eyes for sleep, those nightmares were there."

Betsy's nightmare began July 3, 2011. That's when her husband was fatally shot by a hotel guest inside the Doubletree Hotel downtown. When she made it to Regional One Medical Center, the mayor and police chief were there to meet her.

"I yelled and screamed at them. I was not nice," said Warren, whose frustration has since been refueled. "He gave his life to protect the citizens of Memphis," said Warren.

Warren's widow is appearing in a Memphis Police Association ad to oppose a city council proposal to cut police and fire benefits. She's uncertain if the benefits her husband earned for his family will be spared.

"I don't believe one word, I don't trust them if I can't pick them up and throw then I know I don't trust them," said Warren.

And like the memorabilia that is on display at her home, she fights to protect those who serve and honor her husband's spirit.

"I keep his things out to help the kids know he's still here. Even though he's not in body form, he's still here," said Warren.

Warren is not finished sending her message to the city about budget cuts and plans to post a billboard. She will not reveal what it will say, buts says she will present it at a city council meeting on July 15.
