The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Friday night near the University area.
Police say 47-year-old Brandon Yam was hit by a falling bullet around 10:00 p.m. during a Buddhist festival on Owen Boulevard.
They believe someone was firing random shots into the air when Yam was hit, and it isn't clear where the bullet came from.
Kelli Yam, Brandon's 16-year-old daughter, watched it all happen.
Medics took the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Yam says her father can't move one side of his body and that doctors are still unable to remove the bullet because of its location.
"He doesn't remember any of his kids. He remembers my mom, he doesn't remember what happened last night," Yam said.
The family is currently looking for way to pay for medical bills. Both Yam and his wife are unemployed.
