Considering that approximately 30,000 spectators packed the streets of downtown Wilmington for the fireworks show on the 4th of July, Wilmington Police say security for the holiday ran smoothly.
According to a press release from WPD, officials only issued a handful of citations on Friday night, ranging from open container violations to some minor altercations.
Traffic congestion did cause problems at times but police say they have worked hard with the City's Traffic and Engineering Department to reduce the time that drivers had to wait in line.
Approximately 55 WPD officers worked the downtown event.
"We're proud of the hard work and the intense planning that goes into events of this magnitude" says Ralph Evangelous, Chief of Police. "We are also extremely grateful for the partnering agencies who helped make security effective".
Representatives from NC Highway Patrol, NHC Sheriffs Department and the NC ALE assisted with security efforts as well as several other local agencies.
