A man was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Thursday for a cold case murder that happened back in 1998.
Marty Jo Taylor was convicted of killing Jenny Gayle Hampton. He became the prime suspect 16 years after her death.
The Chilton County District Attorney says Taylor was arrested in another case and when the Department of Corrections took a DNA sample, it matched the DNA in this case.
Gayle's brother, Benjamin Hampton, says he's satisfied with the sentence. "The hardest part is not knowing, you know? You have a relative dead and you don't know who did it. Then they can hurt other people. Like I said, that's over today."
Taylor is in his 50's now and the earliest he could be released is in 37 years. Based on his age, the prosecution believes this will be a life sentence for him.
