JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A man shot Sunday night in the Edgewater community has passed away from his injuries, and deputies say the suspected shooter has confessed to the crime.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting, which happened in the 7400 block of Belgium Avenue around 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

When deputies got to the scene, they found 47-year-old Vincent Lamar Giddens of Mulga unresonsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Giddens was taken to UAB Hosptial in critical condition and pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies say the suspect, 30-year-old Antonio Dewayne McIntosh of Edgewater, returned to the scene of the shooting and was taken into custody and questioned.

"McIntosh admitted to shooting Giddens during an argument about a debt that Giddens claimed was owed to him," Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.

McIntosh is charged with murder. He posted a $75,000 bond and was released from the Jefferson County Jail a little after 3 a.m. on Monday.
