BUTLER CO., AL (WSFA) -

Two people were rescued after their vehicle crashed down an embankment and into the woods off Interstate 65 in Butler County Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Steve Jarrett said the crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. near mile marker 138.

Authorities had to search for the crash scene because the vehicle traveled well off the road, according to Jarrett.

The two elderly occupants were trapped due to trees surrounding the vehicle. They were rescued and transported to L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
