OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH/CNN) - Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-OK, said America is in the "most dangerous position we've ever been in as a nation."

As ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he said he has seen intelligence reports on the attacks that have been planned and thwarted in the past several years.

Inhofe said with groups like ISIS growing around the world, the situation is becoming volatile.

"They're so bad, al-Qaida is afraid of them," he said. "They are rapidly developing a method of blowing up a major U.S. city, and people just can't believe that's happening."

ISIS was responsible for the execution of American journalist James Foley. The terrorist group said it executed him in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes targeting its positions in northern Iraq.
