LEE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured another Sunday night. Authorities say this is being investigated as a homicide, attempted homicide and attempted robbery.

According to a news release, the sheriff's office received multiple 911 calls about a shooting from people at a poker party shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The incident happened in the 5500 block of Highway 431 in North in Opelika. Thrift's Auto Sales and Towing is located on the property.

When deputies arrived, they saw about a dozen people around two men who were lying on their backs a short distance from the road.

Marcus Keith Byrom, 43, of Montezuma, GA, was suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his left arm and torso. He was flown to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA. Police say he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The second person, Jertheaus Antez "Pookie" Williams, 29, of Opelika, appeared to have a fatal gunshot to head. His body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

According to witnesses, Byrom and another person at the party walked outside and a black car pulled up and stopped near them. Two people got out of the vehicle and yelled "Don't move! Give it up!" and fired shots.

Authorities believe Williams was one of the suspects in the vehicle. Witnesses said the second suspect fled in the car north on Highway 431 toward Chambers County.

The vehicle is described as a black midsize sedan similar to a Toyota Camry.
