BATON ROUGE – Three schools have the honors of having players selected by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers Association members Monday in the first voting for LSWA players of the week in state college football for 2014.

Kenny Hilliard, whose second half rushing helped get the LSU offense rolling in a 28-24 comeback win over Wisconsin Saturday, was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while ULM's Mitch Lane, who made the ESPN SC Top 10 plays in a win over Wake Forest, was named the Defensive POW. The first Special Teams Player of the Week was Louisiana-Lafayette punter Daniel Cadona who in the opening week posted the best average in the country.

Here are the capsules on this week's winners:

OFFENSE – Kenny Hillard – LSU – RB, Sr., Patterson, La.

Rushed for 110 yards and a TD to lead LSU past Wisconsin, 28-24, in the season opener … Ignited a second half rally that saw LSU overcome a 24-7 deficit to record one of the biggest comeback wins in school history … 99 of his 110 yards came in the second half as LSU recorded one of the biggest comeback wins in school history … Had 93 yards in the fourth quarter … Scored game-winning points on a 28-yard TD run with 9:41 left in the contest, putting LSU up … Averaged 6.1 yards on 18 carries … Also caught 2 passes for 22 yards … Fourth 100-yard game of career, first since week 3 of 2012 season.

DEFENSE – Mitch Lane – ULM – S, Jr., Pine Bluff, Ark.

Had six tackles (4 solo and two assisted) during ULM's 17-10 victory over Wake Forest on Thursday … Trailing by a touchdown with four minutes left in the third quarter, Lane turned the game around for the Warhawks as he intercepted the Demon Deacons' pass attempt and returned it 31 yards for a TD to tie the game at 10-10. This play, featured as #3 on ESPN's SCTop 10 plays, inspired the offense, who marched down to capture the game-winning TD … Lane and rest of the Warhawk defense limited the Demon Deacons to just 94 yards of total offense, the fewest yards gained against the Warhawks since 63 yards of offense by Northwestern State on Sept. 1, 2005.

SPECIAL TEAMS – Daniel Cadona – Louisiana-Lafayette – P, Sr., Darwin, NT, Australia

In his second year of playing American football, Cadona punted four times for a national-best 54.8 yard average in the Ragin' Cajuns 45-6 win over in-state opponent Southern. Uncorked a 77-yard punt for a touchback in the second quarter – the longest punt in Cajun Field history and the fourth-longest in school history … Placed one boot (a 46-yard punt) inside the 20-yard line in the first quarter and added a 50-yarder that went out of bounds at the Southern 20.
